This is a TechGig Exclusive Interview with Jagat Pal, CTO, Cybage. In this interview, we draw on the expertise of this technocrat to discuss emerging technologies, tech trends in 2019, various technology challenges, and more.
What are some of the popular technologies that your organisation is implementing?
We are a highly tech-focused organization and employ diverse digital solutions across departments and operations. These solutions are predominantly based on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning processes that have worked immaculately in the past and help optimize the resource supply chain. From recruitment to on-the-job training and administration tasks across departments, we have incorporated a slew of customized tech-based solutions to great effect.
Are there any significant tech-enabled improvements in your organisation that you’d like to share with us?
While there are quite a few tech-driven additions, one of our most popular applications is called Employee Self Service application. It is a one-stop, comprehensive platform that collates information required by employees such as entry/exit timings, number of leaves, holidays, etc. It is an AI-based system that adds convenience by reducing the amount of frequent employee engagement with machines for different tasks by storing relevant information.
What are your thoughts on this fear of automation resulting in displacement of humans from jobs?
There is a fear and paranoia among today’s working professionals about emerging technologies such as AI, some even considering these to displace humans from jobs. However, this fear is unfounded. Although, as machines powered by AI start emerging, few of the mundane will die out. However, an increasing man-machine engagement will also lead to the emergence of many new profiles. Therefore, the correct approach to take would be to consider this phase as a time of ‘realignment’ rather than displacement. At Cybage, we try to keep our workforce future-ready by offering ample training, re-skilling and cross-skilling opportunities.
Are you using Big Data to improve customer experiences and for innovation?
We have been implementing Big Data in our products since 2006. We started with relational databases, but now Big Data technologies have become so prolific that businesses are carrying out a significant part of their end-user engagement through conversational interfaces called chatbots.
At Cybage, we focus on innovation and Big Data as the two primary tools to build unique, sustainable, useful tech-based solutions that can serve the needs of our clients.
Please outline some of the top technology trends in 2019
The use of machine learning and AI-based technology in software development is very popular currently and will remain so during the next year. With the General Elections in India coming up, data analytics will play a big role next year. Enterprise-based DevOps solutions will be the top trending technologies in 2019.
With data security becoming a growing concern, how do you ensure safety of the data in your organization?
Judicious use of data, restricted access and sensitization regarding data theft, we believe are the three important factors to secure data. An enterprise that gives great attention to data protection should frequently engage with its employees on the issue and encourage best practices that keep information protected by an individual and at a macro level.
