City-based NGOs and companies have lined up a host of activities to mark World Environment Day on June 5 and the rest of the week. June 5 is a day celebrated by the United Nations to create worldwide awareness of environmental issues. Virasat Pune Club, which is a part of Janwani, has organised Discover Trees of Pune & Joys of Cycling event on June 8 between 7 and 10 am. Those interested can join this picturesque cycle route of 13 km through Pune and experience local and exotic trees. A tree guide will provide botanical insights to the participants. The club has also organised a visit to the Central Bee Research and Training Institute on June 21. The event aims to provide information about the importance of Indian bees and pollination. The Persistent Foundation, which is the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Persistent Systems, has organised a street play on June 5 at Good Luck Chowk and Kamala Nehru Park to create awareness on waste management. Cybage Asha, which is the CSR wing of Cybage Software, is offering saplings to Cybage employees for free under its Go-green initiative. Cybage employees can select a plant from the list given on the intranet and the nursery will have them delivered to the Cybage premises on June 5. The Cybage Asha committee has received a huge response for this initiative.
