Global distribution systems (GDSs) have been playing a major role in the travel distribution for years now and have enjoyed a leading position globally for distribution. However, things seem to be changing now. PhoCusWright predicts that Alternative Distribution Systems (ADSs) will change the equation in near future because they are fast gearing up to challenge GDSs in this space.
The Travel Distribution network is a huge network occupying the core of the Travel and Hospitality Industry. It comprises major GDSs such as Sabre, Amadeus, Travelport (Galileo and Worldspan), as well as ADS and switches such as Pegasus, ITA, Farelogix, etc. Travel distribution is changing dynamically with suppliers trying to directly reach to either consumers or OTAs; that is where the tussle between GDSs and ADSs will arise. It will be challenging for GDSs to scale their legacy systems to fulfill the new supplier demands.
